If you’re currently looking for an educational handheld system for kids 4-9, then you should consider the Explorer. Let me start by saying I’m a fan of the Leapfrog concept (educational handheld system for young kids). So perhaps I’m a bit biased. But we are also honest, so if we don’t like it, we’ll say it. Our son got a Leapster L-Max Leapster L-Max Learning Game…

My 3 year old son got this about two months ago, I agree with other reviews that say this toy is amazing, better graphics, the screen sensitivity is higher and the kids are drawn by this new leapster explorer, you can download applications very similarly than on an Iphone and your kids gets to read books that are already out on TAG. However, there is no camera like they had said there would be, there are endless commercials every time your child turns on the leapster explorer and the games are less educational than those leapfrog currently has on the market for leapster 2. Furthermore, the leapster explorer is more expensive than the Leapster 2 and the games are too pricey for the little educational content they provide. Educationally wise Leapster 2 is still the best choice out there, why do I say this? Well if you compare the games of leapster 2 (which I own all of them), to the games available for leapster explorer you will come to the conclusion that leapster 2 games has much better content for children ages 4 -8, even the older games for plain first generation leapster are more educationally inclined than the leapster explorer ones. Vocabulary wise, reading wise, math wise and simply on every scholastic level they seem to have better examples, better skill development, and create a better foundation for skills that every child needs to develop later in their educational life (such as algebra, science, etc). The Leaspter 2 also has the benefit of fewer commercials or need to be buying new games to develop a new skill. My main concern with leapster explorer, it seems that leapfrog has decided to put their marketing and money making ambitions above learning expectations. The games are fun YES, the kids will love this toy YES, but your child will not learn as much as he or she would with the leapster 2. I understand that leapfrog is a business and they need to make money, but this new toy is targeted to make our children learn to ask and ask for the next game.

how can I make him stop throwing things?

hello. I have a son who is almost 2 1/2 years old. He has autism spectrum disorder and sensory needs. I have him in behavior therapy 6 hours a week as well as 2 hours of speech and ocupasional therapy. I can not get his behavior under control. He throws everything, toys, food, drink etc.. everything he gets his hands on he throws. He even hurts people by throwing toys intentionally at them. I don’t know what to do. I have tried spanking, tried slapping his hand, tried time out, tried re directing him to something else to play with, tried picking up the toys and asking him to hand them to me or put them away, I have tried EVERYTHING I have heard to try, I even did what the therapist sugested and still he keeps throwing. argggg… if you have ANY sugestions PLEASE help.

Most 2 year olds experiment with cause and effect, and throwing is unfortunately a great way to learn how things work. He throws something at someone and it gets a reaction. Be it positive or negative.

So, a perfectly normal 2 year is likely to experiment with throwing objects. Since your son has a spectrum disorder, you may be battling with it for a bit longer than others, but if you are consistent it should subside with time.

How is your son at communicating? The throwing behavior, especially at other kids may be his way of expressing frustration or distaste for the situation. Being autistic he is likely easily upset, and if you are able to get him out of the situation before he reaches the boiling point, you can avoid some of the throwing scenarios.

You can also offer him plenty of soft toys, so that if the throwing continues at least he won’t hurt other children around him.

Good luck, and remember that at 2, he really isn’t doing this behavior to hurt others or cause you any heartache. He is simply trying his best to figure out the world around him.

I need help dress shopping?

So, I’m going to my boyfriend’s sister’s wedding with him. So, of course, I need to dress up some. I need to find a somewhat formal dress, I was thinking something that hits me about the knee, but here’s the deal, I’m only 5ft tall, right? I’m petite naturally, however, I have so much trouble finding dresses that fit some what properly. I’m build differently, I wear a size like 2 or 3/4 pants in juniors, I have a tad bit of a larger chest size 34D, so I always have trouble finding something that will fit over my chest, it’s either too small over the chest and fits every where else, or doesn’t fit in the cest and no where else, advice?

Question about Sims 3 items?

Just wondering, haven’t read too much on it, I play it and I haven’t noticed as far as what I saw from sims 2 the items being kind of basic and dull, are there kind of like achievements that unlock other items, like from the previous ones, you could have futuristic devices, rocket, gnome workshops, magic lamps, crystal balls, coffins, etc, are there those type of items in the game? or in world adventures? I just miss doing the crazy things lol

There are still things you can buy with achievement points (I think they’re called something different in this game.) There are things like Moodlet Manager, which allows you to change someone’s mood to either good or bad. There is a food duplicator, a machine that instantly transports you anywhere, and a machine that changes your body shape instantly. As for job rewards, I know that in the science career you can get a machine that can upgrade other items, but I’m not sure about every other career. I don’t have World Adventures yet, so I couldn’t tell you about that.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary contains hundreds of native Australian fauna on display in natural bushland and rainforest settings. The park covers an area of 27 hectares of rainforest vegetation, and visitors can come close to a crocodile, cuddle up with a koala bear, fraternise with kangaroos and check out other birdlife and marsupials native to Australia.

Do you think young children in daycare have advantages over young children who are not?

i have noticed a few kids who are in a structured daycare who seem much more advanced than my son who is not in daycare, I sit down with him play and recite the abc’s and numbers, go over colors,and shapes. But, i am starting to think that maybe he needs a more structured environment and would benefit from being around other kids. Maybe he would pick up things more? What are your opinions on this?

Kids do learn from interactions with other kids and not having the parents around for a portion of the day is good for them. Being home can compare, having multiple kids, consistant playdates etc. I do agree though, that kids who go to daycare, have more regular interaction with kids their age, which helps them progress faster. It also depends on what kind of place you have your child too. I noticed a HUGE difference in my daughter’s development between daycare with many different ages where she was in the older set compared to preschool, where she was with older kids.

I’m sure it varies per child blah blah blah, but i do think it does benefit them about 2 1/2 to start in a prechool like environment so long as it isnt rigidly scheduled and allows plenty of free play
